The Institute of Criminal Law and Economic Committee [IDPEE] is a university research and teaching centre at the Faculty of Law, of the University of Coimbra, in the legal form of an Association, which proposes conducting research, publishing studies and providing teaching on economic and financial crime.

In collaboration with the Faculty of Law, of the University of Coimbra, [IDPEE] now offers the Specialization Course in European Economic and Criminal Law open to everyone holding a University degree in any area.

The course programme reflects the concern to consider the problems posed by economic crimes in their various dimensions: dogmatic, criminologic, political-criminal-procedural and pragmatic. In addition, recent developments in the European integration process do not leave untouched the legal and criminal legal systems of the member states, especially in the area of economic crimes and should, therefore be a thematic framework itself.

Thus,  the dogmatic and political-criminal analysis, of the program covers topics that are the cornerstones of a 'general part' of economic crimes/Laws,  followed by others that give shape to a selection of their 'special part', dedicated to the monographic study of certain crimes. On the other hand the specificity of criminological reflection and of processing procedure that the phenomenology of economic crime calls upon, requires a separate consideration of issues in criminology, criminalistics and criminal procedural law.

Finally, it is intended that this traditional academic training is complemented by lectures on issues that fall within the problematic circle defined by the topics, though not directly involved in criminal justice discourse. In order to achieve this, the Course has the honor of counting on the collaboration of personalities with merit in several areas (judiciary, law, economics and public finance, banking, securities market, etc.).

All this competes, so we hope,  to provide for a training with high scientific standards and of great pragmatic interest, capable of giving its participants the skills to deal, in their professional lives, with the  increasingly complex and frequent problems arising from European criminal and economic law.
